Estimating Numbers

So, I was putting the dishwasher on, as you do on a Friday morning. I could hear Toby on IXL with ‘ping, ping, ping’ in the background which means he was getting the correct answer. So I went to see what he was doing.

Toby must have been suggested ‘estimate to the nearest ten’ under the next steps for him.

This is why I love, love, love IXL.

The Maths Mum and I had a conversation earlier this week about whether Toby actually understood what a number size over 20 actually meant and how to teach him or find out. With a child with no useful speech it’s near impossible to find out. However with IXL I can uncover knowledge that I have absolutely no other way to reasonably find out.

But I think he’s smashed this one!
